What is cloud VMS (Video Management Software)?
Cloud VMS is video surveillance software that runs in the cloud instead of on a local server. Cameras send footage directly to cloud storage. You access live and recorded video through a browser or mobile app from anywhere — no on-site server, no VPN. iFovea is a cloud VMS platform serving businesses with 1 to 500+ camera locations.
What is the difference between cloud VMS and NVR/DVR?
An NVR (Network Video Recorder) stores footage locally on a hard drive. Cloud VMS stores footage in the cloud and manages all cameras from a central dashboard. Cloud VMS advantages: no on-site hardware to maintain or replace, remote access without VPN, multi-site management from one login, and AI analytics that run without a local GPU.
What is VSaaS and is it the same as cloud VMS?
VSaaS (Video Surveillance as a Service) and cloud VMS are the same thing. Both refer to surveillance systems where software and storage run in the cloud, cameras connect over the internet, and management is done via browser. Pricing is subscription-based per camera per month.
Does cloud VMS require replacing existing security cameras?
No. Cloud VMS connects to any ONVIF-compatible IP camera — which includes Hikvision, Axis, Dahua, Hanwha, Bosch, Uniview, Milesight, and 2M Technology. Most IP cameras installed in the last 10 years are ONVIF-compatible. Analog cameras require an encoder to convert the signal before connecting to cloud VMS.
What happens to cloud surveillance footage if the internet goes down?
With an edge recording gateway, footage is recorded locally to the gateway during an internet outage and automatically synced to the cloud when connectivity is restored. Without a gateway, cameras with built-in SD card recording continue recording locally. Cameras without local storage will have gaps during the outage.

Which security camera brands work with cloud VMS?
Any camera with ONVIF Profile S or Profile T support works with iFovea cloud VMS. Compatible brands include: Hikvision, Axis, Dahua, Hanwha, Bosch, Uniview, Milesight, 2M Technology, Vivotek, and hundreds of others. Non-ONVIF proprietary cameras (Verkada, Rhombus, Flock) do not connect to open cloud VMS platforms.
What is ONVIF and why does it matter for cloud VMS?
ONVIF is an industry standard protocol that defines how IP cameras communicate with video software. An ONVIF camera will connect to any ONVIF-compatible VMS without custom drivers. It matters for cloud VMS because it means you can switch VMS providers without replacing cameras. Non-ONVIF cameras lock you into the manufacturer’s platform forever.
Can I use Hikvision cameras with cloud VMS?
Yes. Hikvision cameras support ONVIF Profile S and Profile T. Enable ONVIF on the camera via: Device Management → Network → Advanced Settings → Integration Protocol → enable ONVIF. Use the ONVIF username and password (not the admin login) to connect to iFovea. Hikvision DS-2CD, IPC-HDW, and Pro Series cameras are all compatible.
How many cameras can cloud VMS support per account?
iFovea cloud VMS scales from 1 camera to unlimited cameras across unlimited locations. There is no per-account camera limit. The pricing model is per camera per month — adding locations or cameras is a linear subscription increase with no per-site setup fees or hardware.
Do analog CCTV cameras work with cloud VMS?
Analog cameras require a video encoder to convert the analog signal to a digital IP stream before connecting to cloud VMS. Encoders from Axis (Q7400 series) and Hikvision (DS-6700 series) convert 1–4 analog channels to ONVIF-compatible IP streams. For most businesses, replacing analog cameras with IP cameras is more cost-effective.

Does cloud VMS include ALPR (license plate recognition)?
